Arc of Alachua County

The ARC of Alachua County began as a grassroots movement of parents in Gainesville in the early 1960’s. It was formally came together in 1963 and incorporated as an IRS Certified 501(c)(3) Not for Profit Organization in 1966. We currently serve about 300 individuals in a wide variety of programs.

Mission

The Mission Statement of the ARC of Alachua County: The ARC of Alachua County is a community based organization committed to providing a continuum of exemplary services, supports, and advocacy to assure that people with developmental disabilities can enjoy respect and dignity and be full participants in the community.

People

Developmental Disabilities of the people we serve include:
  • Mental Retardation from all causes
  • Spina Bifida
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Autism
  • Prader-Willi Syndrome

Staff and Consumers:
  • We serve about 300 people in a variety of settings
  • We employ about 320 full and part time staff
  • We employ about 200 consumers

  • Maintenance Work Crews (about 14 people)
  • Community Employment (Competitive Employment – about 50 people)

  • Companion Services (40 people)
  • Community Inclusion (60 people)
  • Recreation (free to any Alachua County resident desiring to participate)
  • Adult Basic Education (20 people)
